Learning and Unlearning

Most students are inherently sloppy --- about thinking, about speaking, about writing.  They paint with a "wide brush." "All FAST FOOD is unhealthy," they say. Or GMO's are unhealthy! Or pesticides are killing us!

Too easy to just blame fast food! Too easy to claim that if we just eat "organic" we will reclaim our health! Too easy ---- and too wrong!  We have been ingesting chemicals of one type or another for our entire lives. Just because I start eating organic does not mean that I won't get cancer. The residual chemicals I have breathed, touched, ingested, absorbed and in some way contacted are already nestled neatly in my body.

These chemicals will show up in my "health or blood scans;" in any toxic testing I undergo; sadly, in any post-mortem testing as well. We are all products of "the wonderful world of modern chemistry."
And oftentimes our body has learned to survive -- has even come up with new coping mechanisms to allow us to "live" as normally as we did before the modern age.

But make no mistake. We cannot go backwards in time. We cannot reclaim the pristine when the world is already fouled with and dependent upon the "wonderful world of chemistry."
