Today, Monday, I finished my "self-appraisal" -- which fortunately isn't due until tomorrow. I was honest, thorough, and complete -- none of which will be much appreciated by anyone who might read it.
It is after all a "grading scale" with little regard for personality, achievement, or success. It is just a "quantifiable" instrument for keeping everyone motivated: numbers can't be too high or the person will just "relax" and do nothing {the anti-tenure argument}; numbers can't be too low or the person will get angry at the self-improvement regimen they will get.
The instrument in use by STC is slightly short of a 1980's business self-appraisal that you might give to warehouse workers at your plant in Reading, PA. It is not a form nor a format for professional self- appraisal. And so it goes.
